September 27th, 2010

In response to the six alarm fire on September 24, 2010, at 200 Wellesley Street East, the City of Toronto and Toronto Community Housing are working together to coordinate donations from members of the public.

The City has set up a bank account to accept monetary donations.  Cheques should be made out to “The City of Toronto, 200 Wellesley Fire”.  Donations are tax deductible, and donors should include their full name and address in order to receive a tax receipt.

Donations will be accepted at the Wellesley Community Centre, the 519 Community Centre (519 Church Street).  Cheques may also be mailed to the Toronto Office of Partnerships, Metro Hall, First Floor, 55 John Street, Toronto ON M5V 3C6.

Donations can also be made through any RBC branch in Toronto. The name of the account is “Donations for 200 Wellesley St. Residents”.

Gift cards for grocery, department and drug stores are also being accepted.

Clothing donations are no longer accepted.

The public’s support is also needed to provide food and other supplies for the pets of this building. The following supplies are needed: food for both cats and dogs, cat litter, pet carriers of any size, and disposable aluminum pans (large and small) to use as litter boxes and for food/water dishes. Donations may be dropped at 519 Church Street or at Toronto Animal Services, South Region Shelter, 140 Princes’ Blvd. (Horse Palace, Exhibition Place).
