Community Update: King/Sumach intersection and 514 Cherry route
The TTC will update residents in the King/Sumach area about noise reduction measures in relation to streetcar operations on the 514 Cherry route. At this meeting, results of the TTC’s noise and vibration measurement testing will also be released. Testing was conducted at three intersections with similar track geometry in May 2017: King and Sumach, Bathurst and Fleet and Queen and Broadview.
Date: Tuesday, June 27, 2017
Time: 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Location: Toronto Cooper Koo Family Cherry Street YMCA Centre – 2nd floor, 461 Cherry St
• The new 514 Cherry streetcar service was launched on June 19, 2016. It connects Cherry Street and the West Don Lands area in the east, to Dufferin Street and the Liberty Village area in the west (from Distillery Loop to Dufferin Gate Loop).
• TTC has been operating a shuttle bus (Wheel-Trans) in place of streetcars between the King/Sumach intersection and the Distillery Loop between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. on weekdays, and between 10 p.m. and 10 a.m. on weekends as a temporary measure to reduce streetcar turning noise for our neighbours.
• The 514 route improves service to 40,000 customers/day supporting the heavily travelled 504 King streetcar service that carries 65,000 riders daily. The 514 service is now operated by a fleet of air-conditioned low-floor, accessible streetcars.
